Chanel Couture Spring 2010

I am so in love with Chanel's Spring Couture Collection! I want it all! The hair, the frills, the colors, the lace, the metallics, the pearls, the big hair bows - everything about this collection appeals to me. And I'd wear it anywhere, anytime. It's almost a magical collection, sexy, feminine, empowering. Carl Lagerfeld has really outdone himself this time.

WIP - Gingerbread House part 2

This is my update on my Gingerbread House illustration. Next up is color and lines. I'm thinking of making this in three different versions to practise different methods.

My Favorite Fashion and Trend Blog

I love fashion! I think fashion makes life fun, creative and worthwhile. I love looking at all kinds of crazy trends, yummy new designs and generally getting inspired by what's going on in the fashion industry. This means that I love to read fashion blogs to stay updated, but one blog is above all the rest when it comes to trends, fun and adventure and that's Trend de la Creme! Even my boyfriend can agree that some of the posts there are interesting and he hates everything fashion related and can barely stand it when he has to go shopping with me. Trend de la Creme shows you all kinds of trends that you never even knew existed and I check it daily with the anticipation of seeing something awesome.

My Mail Me Art 2 Submission

Yesterday was all about making the Mail Me Art deadline. I haven't participated before but I really wanted to send something in just to be a part of it. I think it's a great concept and a lot of the artwork is fantastic. It was hard to do in time as I haven't had any time off of work lately, but I did it! The artwork didn't quite turn out as I had planned but I'm quite happy with the whole feel of it. And I've never painted with acrylics before so that was fun. I wanted to make an old fashioned Danish postman and I think he turned out okay. I made him into a jumping jack and he's attatched to the evelope with pins. Fortunately my post office guaranteed me that the date stamp would be from today so I should be able to make the deadline. Yay.

RIP J. D. Salinger

I want to dedicate today's post to a wonderful author who wrote one of my favorite books, The Catcher in the Rye. I was only a teenager when I read it the first time and it made an immense impression on me, and I know I'm not the only one. RIP.

Illustrations and toys from Ingela Arrhenius

I really love the simple and colorful style of Swedish illustrator Ingela Arrhenius. Sweden is my neighbor country so it's good to see that work as good as this is being produced there. Ingela mainly makes toys and children's book illustrations as far as I can tell. Her work is delightful and reminds me of my own childhood and all my little Pixie books (Danish book brand). See more of Ingela's work and read about her adventures on her cute blog.

Crazy vinyl decal stickers

I'm a sucker for home decoration, especially if it's crazy, quirky and colorful. That's why I love the Hu2 vinyl decals I came across recently. These London based designers certainly know how to make something fun that can brighten up any boring old wall - or laptop, or fridge, or toilet etc. They've made high quality stickers for every room of your house and there are plenty to choose from and they ship worldwide. They even make custom stickers so you can get your own mug up on the wall or give it as a present to someone you really hate haha. Ooh, and check out their cool Flash logo.

I really want this Paris skyline one for the bedroom!

I recently came across the work of Aaron Miller and thought I'd share. He's a young illustrator who was recently featured on the cover on Computer Arts Projects magazine and he's also done several other illustrations for them. His work is delightfully bright and his characters are very kawaii - just the way I like it.

Cartoons and illustrations by Elsa Chang

Let me introduce you to the work of LA design student Elsa Chang. Her work is simply amazing and her portfolio is full of wonderful illustrations, backgrounds, characters and more. As far as I can tell she works  mainly with  watercolor and gouache which adds wonderful textures to her drawings. Can't wait to see more work from her in the future.

WIP - Rollo Racoon and The Gingerbread House

As you know I'm trying to become better at drawing. So right now I'm trying to draw my character Coonie at a gingerbread house. This is a work in progress and so far I only have a few elements sketched out. I'm not even sure of the layout yet.

Here's my progress of the day:

013 - Mmm...macaroons

I just finished a watercolor I did some weeks ago. I needed to add the lineart in Photoshop. I might work more on this later. Not sure if I'm satisfied with the line work. Suggestions are welcome.

The Pomodoro Technique

A lot of illustrators and designers work from home, having their offices and small workspaces too close to time consumers like television, food, pets, etc. This is occationally a problem for me, but I've become better at avoiding these distractions. But lately I came across a time saving concept called the Pomodoro Technique. I haven't actually tried it yet but if someone has please add a comment and tell me if it really works. It sounds like a good idea and I'll definitely try it out sometime. And it's completely free to download which is always a good thing. So have a look and this might help you save a lot of time that you can use for more important things.

Here's the basic gist of the technique:

012 - I'm the man!

Okay so I haven't been able to draw every day. I've simply been to busy with work. I didn't draw today either but I recovered an old sketch and decided to finish it up a bit. So here we go, the piece of the day.

Work by Alex Stikeleather

Okay so I'm way behind on posting. Sorry. I've had an enormously busy week at work and haven't had any time for myself really. But I'll make up for it this weekend with lots of new exciting posts.

I'll start off by sharing the work of Alex Stikeleather who's a very cool design student I discovered on Twitter. I don't know that much about her, but she studies at the School of Visual Arts in NY, and her work is very creative and fun. I just had to share it. I especially fell in love with her Floss Book which is based on one of her school assigments. Have a look at her Flickr gallery or follow her on Twitter.
